LECTURE
DEMONSTRATION
ANDES
MANTA conducts an informal program designed to expose
smaller groups of students (in the classroom) to the
musicians and to the instruments. Students interact with
ANDES MANTA as the musicians explain and demonstrate
each instrument, discuss life in their home country of
Ecuador and offer an opportunity to practice speaking
Spanish with native speakers. This program involves a
demonstration with audience participation, lecture and
question-and-answer period. Approximately 45 minutes
to one hour.

PANPIPE
WORKSHOP
Created
as a hands-on learning experience for children and adults
alike, the panpipe workshop is a start to finish lesson
in creating one's own instrument. Each participant is provided
with a kit (requires a materials fee) containing pre-tuned
South American bamboo pipes, cording and bamboo struts.
The musicians teach the participants how to assemble the
panpipes, called pallas, and finish the workshop by teaching
all participants how to play a simple traditional Andean
song. An excellent choice for students of all ages, and
as an extra activity at festivals and arts council events.
Approximately one hour long.
